Equine-facilitated psychotherapy (EFP) has helped
hundreds of people succeed with life’s challenges. Below
are some basic guidelines to participating in EFP; however,
talk with your doctor or mental health professional before deciding
what course of therapy to pursue.
EFP may be right for you if:
You Are:
• Seeking to overcome trauma or unwanted/destructive
behaviors
• Interested in developing self-esteem, self-awareness,
and trust
• Interested in building personal, family, or team leadership
or communication skills
You Are Not:
• Actively dangerous to yourself or others (suicidal,
homicidal, or abusive)
• Delirious or psychotic
• Actively abusing drugs, alcohol, or other substances
• Medically unstable
